Hawk of the Week
We are evolving "Hawk of the Week" into Hawks Highlights of the week. This could be a good deed on or off the ice, a solid performance on ice or great leadership. It will be a different winner each week. We will post all the highlights shared with us by coaches here:
U11B Black
Camden Heisler has been working hard for his U11B Black team day-in and day-out. Whether the coaches need Camden to play forward or defense, he’s always willing to pitch in and contribute. Camden’s work ethic is infectious and he always brings a smile to the rink. Keep up the good work Camden.
Week 4 - November 11th to 17th
Owen “O-Dog” Keefe – Owen is a big, strong defender for his U11B Black team. Owen always comes to the rink with a smile on his face. His coaches also appreciate his heavy shot and that was on display this weekend when Owen scored not once, but twice in one game. Keep up the great work!
Soren Larson is a first year center with the U13 AA Hawks. Soren's play so far this year has been exceptional. He has truly grasped the teams number one concept and most underdeveloped skill in minor hockey - team play. He has been a factor in at least 50% of the offence so far this year and has done an equally excellent job with his defensive zone assignments and responsibilities, especially D-zone face-offs. A great emerging young leader that knows what it means to lead by example and without a letter on his jersey. Great job Soren!
U15 C Redhawks forward Ben Begin had 3 assists last week and he is working really hard on the forecheck and back check for his team, constantly winning battles against players much bigger than him. Well done Ben!
U13C Ice Hawks Peyton Plotsky. He's a lady byng & art ross type of leader on our team. He is always encouraging his teammates and had 2 goals in a 5-4 loss this week.

U11B Black:
Gaige Best is a first-year player on the U11B Black team. When it comes to effort, Gaige always gives 100%!! He is a solid defenseman and not scared to jump into the offensive zone too. Gaige wears the Hawks colors with pride and we love to see his passion for the game. Keep up the great work this season!
Mikko Verville, a player on the U11B Red team, was called upon at the last minute to help the U11A team out during a crucial league game. Due to a shortage of players, I reached out to Mikko's coach just one hour before the game. Without hesitation, Mikko agreed to suit up and was at Centennial from Bedford in under 30 minutes, ready to play.
Mikko’s commitment and readiness to step up at such short notice speaks volumes about his character. He is always a positive presence on and off the ice, and in the time I’ve worked with him, I’ve never heard him say a negative word about any teammate or opponent. He truly embodies the values we hold dear as Halifax Hawks – sportsmanship, dedication, and a positive attitude.
Week 8 - December 9th to 15th
Kalen Kostopoulos U13AA
As a team, we foster an environment of team play where we value assists and as much as we do goals, but it has been hard to ignore Kalen's ability to finish with 6 goals over the last 2 games (plus a few shifts in the 3rd game where he scored before exiting with a stomach bug). Kalen is a first-year player with the Halifax U13 AA team who has the equal ability to put the puck in the back of net as he does to make a highlight reel pass. Great job Kalen!
Luke Maynard U13A
U13A would like to recognize Luke Maynard for Hawk of the week. Luke is our team captain and has been providing steady two way play all season long. He is a vocal leader on and off the ice and has been awarded the teams hardest worker twice in the past few weeks.
Charlie Simpson U18AA
5 points in 2 games as a defenseman over the weekend, good defensive work, and tons of ice time as we were down to 4 D for both games.
